DAEMMERLICHT


My second ever game project, developed between 2018 and 2020. I eventually had to halt development on this project as it became overly ambitious for what it was and started taking too much time away from other, more important endeavors. Nevertheless, I had a lot of fun experimenting and gained valuable experience from working on it.

I was particularly interested in creating a strong atmosphere and allowing players to explore visually interesting environments, since this is an aspect of games I personally very much enjoy. Therefore the main focus was on presentation and rendering. Seeing the Unreal Engine being used for mainly realistic looks, i wanted to see how far i could push a strongly stylized aesthetic. To achieve this, I used a combination of post processing-effects (outlines, cel-shading, grain, distortion), flat colors with a monochromatic palette, and rather low-poly models.




Always interested in the artistic presentation as well as the technical aspects of games, the exploration of these rendering effects finally kickstarted my journey into VFX and custom shaders.
